SUPREME COURT MILESTONE
CANADIAN Prime Minister Justin Trudeau nominated Judge Mahmud Jamal as the next member of the Supreme Court of Canada this week. Jamal is the first person of colour to be nominated to Canada’s top court. He will replace
Justice Rosalie Abella, the longest-serving Supreme Court justice, who will retire on July 1 at the age of 75. Jamal was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1967. In 1981, his family settled in Edmonton, where he attended high school. He said he is the first person in his family to attend university. |
