HIROSHIMA PEACE OFFERING

THE family of a Hiroshima bomb victim wants to take a flame, which has been burning since the wartime attack, to Pearl Harbor to light a peace monument.

The “flame of peace” is said to have been taken from the smouldering ruins of Hiroshima after the world’s first nuclear attack. It is housed in a peace tower in Fukuoka, Japan. The family of Sadako Sasaki, who died at age 12, of radiationinduced leukaemia a decade after the attack, wants the flame to be used to promote peace.
