THE World Health Organization’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said the coronavirus variant Omicron is very transmissible but that people should not panic about it.

Swaminathan said during an interview on Friday that the right response was to be prepared and cautious and not to panic in face of the new variant.

Meanwhile, Germany will impose sweeping curbs on people who are not vaccinated against Covid-19 to combat the latest surge in cases. Germany’s leaders are also considering making Covid-19 vaccinations compulsory.
