A CASE of bestiality has been opened against a Klaarwater man who was caught in the act by his nephew.

According to the authorities, the case was opened at the Mariannhill police station on Friday.

Lieutenant-colonel Nqobile Gwala, Provincial police spokesperson said the DNA has been taken from the suspect. The matter was still under investigation pending the results.

The nephew of the suspect reported him to the dog’s owners who later opened the case.

Kloof SPCA manager Barbara Patrick said they were aware of the incident and confirmed that a case had been opened against the man.

“We were called to the scene on Friday. A case has been opened and is still under investigation,” she said.

Patrick said this was the first case of bestiality that the Kloof SPCA had been called out for, adding that the public should not hold back on cases involving bestiality and animal cruelty.

“I argue that people should keep their pets safe and also report these kinds of incidents. It is shocking that there are more cases of bestiality but people are too scared to report them, however the public should report these cases,” added Patrick.

This was the second case of bestiality reported in Durban over the past two months. A Phoenix man was also being investigated for allegations of bestiality.
