Q: Namaste Mr Bang. My Saturn Mahadasha period is set to commence from December 2023 and I am scared that something bad is going to happen to me. I have endured a lot of struggle and hardships in my life from the age of 18 up to age 32. After I got married my life became easier and everything is going well. I have an unknown fear and anxiety that something bad is going to happen to me. Please can you advise on my future. | PR

A: Astrologically, your fear is baseless. Planet Saturn Mahadasha is generally the period when it gives extraordinary success. During this Dasha, one’s reach is to its highest potential. Do not worry about this Dasha. As you wrote in the mail that you are doing well and are in a comfort zone, so enjoy the present moment. Your future is very bright.

Please read below to clear your doubt regarding Saturn.

The effect of transit:

Saturn’s transit is considered more significant as it is the planet that delivers the good and bad of one’s life based on the previous karma and the karma done in this lifetime.

It will deliver the influence in slow pace, and any good or bad influence will also be slow but with high intensity.

Being the Lord of the tenth and eleventh house in the horoscope, Saturn plays the most important role in one's life. Whether your horoscope is directly associated with Saturn or not, a record of your deeds is kept by it. It also controls your financial life and the impact on your status, health issues, power, luck, profession, marriage, family, education, business or employment.

Please note: There are two essential concepts in Vedic astrology. The first is to understand your character and why you do the things you do, and the second is to know which planetary energy and time cycle you are in, favourable or unfavourable.

Get an idea of how Saturn’s transit will impact you and then perform the remedy rituals accordingly, to get maximum benefits from this transit.

Sade Sati meaning:

Technically, Sade Sati means seven and half years, so Saturn would cover three houses because it changes its house once in two and a half years. Sade Sati begins once before the birth Moon and ends one house after the house of placement of Moon. With this transit currently, three “Moon ascendants” would be under the impact of Sade Sati. These three ascendants are Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius. People with their Moon sign in Sagittarius would experience the last phase of Sade Sati. People born with their Moon sign in Capricorn will experience the second phase of Sade Sati, and those born with their Moon sign in Aquarius will experience the beginning of their Sade Sati.

The period of Sade Sati has been understood as a testing phase in life or many times it also gives great fortune. Saturn is known to be a hard task master and it regresses the native on various grounds during this period.

Astrological significance:

The planet Saturn is one of the most important planets, as per Vedic as well as Western astrology. This planet is said to signify plenty of things, but it is also feared by many.

Astrological events like Shani Sade Sati (the seven-and-half-year cycle of Saturn in a Moon sign) or horoscope afflictions like Shani Dosha (or an afflicted Saturn) are greatly misunderstood and feared.

The truth is that Saturn is not to be feared so much or certainly not all the time. This slow-moving planet is known to slow down things, impose restrictions and bring about struggles.

But, there is a reason behind it. Saturn, the strict disciplinarian, is responsible for Karmic balancing and fine tuning, affirms the scriptures and ancient astrology sources.

And, that is why Saturn’s sevenand-half year cycle comes into one’s life, at least once. This is a period when things slow down, changes aimed at life-lasting transformation occur and the person and his/ her personality renewed. But, instead of remaining scared or confused, it’s better to get clarity and face this time with confidence and preparation. One can get excellent results, get rid of dysfunctional patterns and start functioning optimally if one knows how to take the best advantage of this period.

If you have been scared of Saturn or have often found yourself struggling beyond reason and logic, get your horoscope checked to see if Saturn is causing this, and check how this can be remedied.

Interesting facts about Saturn: Saturn’s speed: Saturn has the slowest speed among all nine planets and it resides in each sign for an approximate period of 30 months. No other planet stays in any sign for this amount of time.

Saturn Dhaiya: Lasts for about 2 years and 6 months, and it is related to Saturn and not any other planet.

Saturn Sade Sati: Prevails for about 7 years and 6 months, and it is associated with Saturn only. Sade Sati is highly influential and no other planet has such Dasha (period).

Saturn’s Maha Dasha (major period): Lasts for 19 years. Other than Venus, it is the longest Dasha in every sign.

Saturn’s Antar Dasha (sub period):

It varies from Dasha (period) of sign to sign for different times. However, here too, it is for the longest duration after Venus.

Saturn’s aspect: Saturn aspects three positions from the position where it resides. These three positions are third, seventh, and tenth house.

Among all the planets, the Dasha influence of Saturn is the most. Saturn takes 29 and a half years to make one complete orbit of the Sun.

Remember, Saturn showers its blessings to hard-working, honest people and those who always engage in good deeds.
